Course Delivery Options

Classroom Training

You can attend the NRSWA Supervisor course at our Leigh training centre. An experienced instructor delivers training to small groups of up to 8 delegates, combining both theory and hands-on activities.

What You’ll Learn – Course Units

This course includes the following NRSWA units:

  • LA – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus (includes CAT and Genny training; also available as a standalone course).
  • S1 – Monitoring signing, lighting, and guarding (also available individually).
  • S2 – Monitoring excavation in the highway.
  • S3 – Monitoring reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.
  • S4 – Monitoring reinstatement of sub-base and base in non-bituminous materials.
  • S5 – Monitoring reinstatement in bituminous materials.
  • S7 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

 

Course Objectives

Upon completion, you’ll be able to:

  • Perform supervisory duties as defined by the NRSWA Act 1991.
  • Monitor operative tasks without participating in physical work.
  • Ensure that all activities follow safety and legal standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and regulatory bodies.

 

Assessments: How You’ll Be Evaluated

Each unit includes both practical and theoretical assessments.

Practical:

You’ll observe and report on specific street works tasks.

Theory:

  • Open-book, invigilated exam.
  • 45-minute time limit.
  • 80% pass mark required.

    How long is the NRSWA Supervisor Course?

    It runs over five days and includes both theory and practical sessions.

  • What are the NRSWA Supervisor course entry requirements?

    You should be able to speak and understand English fluently. You’ll also need a good level of physical and mental fitness.

    Don’t forget to bring the required PPE:

    • Safety footwear (including indoor shoes).
    • High-visibility jacket.
    • Safety helmet.
    • Safety glasses.
    • Safety gloves.
    • Ear defenders.
  • Is the NRSWA Supervisor Course Accredited?

    Yes, the course is accredited by CABWI.

    On passing the course, you’ll receive a CABWI certificate for each completed unit and a SWQR card valid for five years.

  • Is the course eligible for a CITB Grant?

    Absolutely. If your company is CITB registered, you can claim funding for each delegate who completes the course successfully.

  • How long is a NRSWA Supervisor course certificate valid?

    The certificate is valid for five years.

  • How do I renew my NRSWA Supervisor certificate?

    You can renew it by taking a two-day NRSWA Reassessment course with 3B Training before your current card expires.

  • Do I need to complete the NRSWA Operative Course first?

    No. You can enrol in the Supervisor course independently.
